A lot of people are taking a serious look at their careers, as well as their other options, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. You might be looking at ways of reinventing your career, but have you thought about getting into a line of work that could help the world directly in overcoming the greatest health crisis of our lifetime?

Manufacturing masks

Many places are still in dire need of the supplies that are helping us get through the pandemic safely, including masks, hand sanitizer, and more. To that end, you can look at the processes of making face masks outlined by Edana and consider starting your own business to manufacture, sell, and supply those masks to either the public or to those industries that need them most.

Providing direct care

If you want to do something that makes a real difference in the day-to-day lives of those likely to be affected by the virus, there is no superstructure that needs more help than health care. There is a greater need for registered nurses than ever and you can see what AB Staffing Solutions offers as just an example. If you want to choose a career that is likely to make the most difference, but also ensures you have a career for years to come, nursing might just be it.

Support those in crisis

There are other kinds of care you can provide to those in need aside from the medical care that nurses and doctors provide, of course. The pandemic has stretched resources thin, including for nonprofits and care facilities. While you can donate or volunteer in your time off, you may also find that many of these facilities are looking to hire new people to deal with the increased demand for labor.

Dealing with the data

There is a different side to fighting the pandemic than simply providing health care and helping to roll out vaccines. Tracking and reacting to this virus has largely been a game of following the data. One of the most widely shared technical skills nowadays is data analysis and science. If you have skills in any of those fields, you could look at biostatistics jobs as outlined by Biospace. There are plenty of both public and private organizations looking for those who can help them make sense of the data as it comes in.

Adapting your work

Not all career shifts have to mean moving into an entirely different line of work. If you want to make the best use of the skills you have, then you might instead want to look at opportunities at Remoters and similar sites. More and more workplaces are moving remote and you could find a distanced way to keep applying your skills to those that need help in making that transition.

There are plenty of ways to get involved in both the frontlines and in support of the fight against COVID-19. These services are all likely to be needed long after we’re done with the existing lockdown, too, so you could be choosing a job that is futureproofed, as well.
