Some people like to claim that there’s not a lot you can do with creative writing skills these days. Well, I’m not quite sure where people are getting that idea. Here are some of the great career paths available to you through creative writing!

Copywriting

When people need someone to create compelling and entertaining text? They usually hire a copywriter. Your work might appear on billboards. On blogs. In video adverts. On business websites. Basically, anywhere where text is required, copywriters are usually involved. The text is rarely written by the people running the business, after all! The focus is generally on writing snappy, catchy, brief pieces. However, depending on the particular company, you may also be required to write longer and more informative pieces. Copywriting can be a very mixed bag, but it’s certainly an interesting one, and can be done freelance!

Marketing

Companies who needs to sell their products are desperate for creative talent. They know that creative, imaginative content is what goes viral these days. They know that humor is a big part of it, too. That’s why creative writing skills have become a premium in the world of marketing. If you’ve got creative writing skills, you could find yourself making good money here! If you’re in the know about marketing from a technical standpoint then you’ll definitely be at an advantage. For example, being knowledgeable of integrated marketing communications will definitely help. You can learn more about IMC online.

Teaching

For many people, the most important thing you can do with a skill is to pass it down to someone else. (Of course, if that were our only focus… Then everyone would be too busy teaching others about creative writing instead of writing creatively!) Students are becoming more and more interested in the world of creative writing. They know that it can be applied to so many things. Many also want to be able to express themselves imaginatively. Whatever the case, you could be there to teach them how to do it well. Becoming a creative writing teacher is definitely a possibility!

Blogger

Blogging is a hobby for millions of people. But is there actually any money in it? As you’ve probably heard by now, there are a lot of people who have found great success with their own blog. Many have even been able to turn it into a full-time job. But doing that requires creativity, hard work, and patience. It takes a long time. But it’s possible. With experience in creative writing, and a focus on creativity on your blog, you’re probably going to have the upper hand! It all depends on what you want your blog to be about. With the right skills, you could make any subject compelling enough to gain lots of readers. Heck, you could even blog about creative writing!

Entertainment
Of course, this is what a lot of people imagine themselves doing when they’re studying creative writing. They want to write novels, or comics, or films, or cartoons. And, as I’m sure you’re aware, there are people out there who have gotten rich doing those things. But this industry is a tough one to crack. Still, if you don’t try then you won’t get anywhere, right?
