Home Run Interview, Right!?! Jose Canseco! (video)

by Rich DeMatteo on January 22, 2010

Who said that funny, can’t also be informational?  Check out the hilarious interview video clip below and stop back after for my comments.

What have we learned?

  • DON’T get caught up in a magazine while waiting for them to start your interview
  • DO dress well.  The guy totally dresses the part in this interview
  • DON’T hit on anyone or ask for their phone number.  Even when you think you can guess the first 3 digits
  • DON’T tip anyone.  You know this, right?
  • DO smile when greeting your interviewer.  The man is certainly confident.
  • DON’T bring up awkward/weird animal facts.  What are you, a zoologist?
  • DON’T use company names from movies for your resume.  Although awesome, I don’t suggest it.
  • DO move the conversation to an area of expertise you are more comfortable with.  He totally moved it on to his “special skills”.
  • DON’T list your “Dong” size under special skills.  Thanks.

Haha, this is hilarious! Thanks for showing it – kind of makes me feel awkward for him.

When I saw this I knew I had to post it. I know right, I felt awkward for him, but that dude definitely didn’t feel awkward. He was loving every minute of that interview…

This reminds me of a girl I interviewed in Michigan who told me her proudest accomplishment was being the only virgin in her sorority. It was awkward.

Hey Sarah – Your response should have been to switch to an awful interview question just to move away as quick as possible. Like, “umm, so where do you see yourself in 5 years…”

Fantastic Friday afternoon post, haha. You just reminded me that I really, REALLY need a slap bracelet, and for that I say, THANK YOU.

Rich,

That made my morning. To be honest, I always have thought it would be fun and do something totally insane in an interview. Obviously I would never do that, but it could still make a great story. I had an Indian friend once who had some really ridiculous stories. The first time he went to the interview, he had to take a leak really bad and like a jackass decides not to wait till he gets in the building. The guy who caught him turned out to be the guy who was interviewing him. A second time, he couldn’t make it a second round interview with another person, so he sent a friend in his place. Again, not recommended, but really funny things that this brought back memories of.

Yo Srini – I can not believe he sent someone in his place. That is like Good Will Hunting! haha, it is perfect and hilarious, but obviously not suggested.

And, what a jack ass. Why would he pee outside?

The dude in this interview was in a fairly entertaining Mayne Street short on ESPN… you ever see that? Don’t have time to find the link now.

I have always enjoyed the Good Will Hunting / Harold & Kumar movie tradition of “effing with the interview” by doing something dumb. I also feel strongly that dong size references should make more appearances in comedy.

Hey Royce, I haven’t seen it, but I think I need to check that out!

The Good Will Hunting scene is pretty awesome. I love it because of how persuasive he is in getting their money. It’s perfect.
