Goofy Looking Dudes, Sandwiches, and a Fake Video Resume

The world is full of jokesters, goofy looking dudes, and sandwiches.  The video resume embedded below includes all of those things, and it is indeed a fake.

The problem with video resumes like this is that it’s hard to tell if a person is just trying to be funny in their video, or if it’s actually a joke.  The video is only about a minute and thirty seconds, so watch the whole thing, and pay attention to the part where he reveals his contact information at the end.  You should be able to tell right away why this baby is fake.  Check below the video for more comments from me.

If him saying, “I’ll bring the sandwiches”, doesn’t give it away, then revealing a pager number should hint that it’s fake.  At first I was confused when watching the video and couldn’t tell if this bearded dude was fo’ real.  When I watched again it was easy to point out.

This video resume concerns me for a few reasons.  You see, people want to show off their personality in a video resume and pretty much everyone believes they are funny as hell.  This can lead to very weird, dry, or over the top jokes that may confuse the viewer, AKA the recruiter.   Be aware that you’re walking a very thin line when incorporating humor into a video like this.  Be funny if you wish, but don’t go over the top.

Thanks to Lindsey Tramuta for making me aware of the video!

The videos was most perfect for every recruiter to know what a video resume can do! Its always difficult to judge any one just looking at videos ..its always better to have a face t face interview. I think should be read by every citizen of the world. I am happy that at least somebody gave this subject an attention. People should understand its importance as well…

yuck. has business become third grade acting? if your job is not being an actor, dont get on TV. Sure use creative methods in your own industry, but yeaaah nah. Pick up the phone you pussy. It is much easier for someone to determine your personality form actually talking to you as opposed to watch a video that could have taken 1 or 100 takes. In fact, don't pick up the phone. Go hunt em down :)

Video Resume 101 - NEVER try to be funny - treat it as a first interview. 102 NEVER post your video resume on YouTube - you won't be taken seriously. No question video resumes present a powerful alternative to the "paper"' version. Do your homework - check out TalentRooster.com - we will make sure you capture your absolute best in a standardized, professional fashion.

Hey Vinay - Thanks for the comment. I like your straight forward approach in your advice. Nicely done, sir!

Hey David - I kind of disagree. I think some light humor is a good thing. On a first interview, when people were laughing it was always a good thing, and that person sometimes gets the job.
