If you’re currently looking not only for a job but for a fulfilling career that you’ll love from now until the time you hang up your boots and retire, you simply must consider the possibility of working with kids.

Whether you get your online bsw to become a children’s social worker, or get your teacher’s license, so that you can become an educator, working with children is likely to be one of the best decisions you ever make. Sure, it can be hard at times, but if you love kids and you want to work a job that really makes a difference, it will be so worth it.

Still on the fence? Check out these very real benefits of working with children:

You Get to Play

When we become adults, we tend to stop playing. Sure, some of us might enjoy the odd video game or board game, but how often do you see adults playing hide and seek or tag when they don’t have young children of their own? Not very often. However, when you work with kids, the opportunities to keep playing are there from now until you retire!

You Really Do Make a Difference

You might tell yourself that you make a positive difference working in banking or serving customers in the local restaurant, and that may be so. However, it’s not really the same as taking an abused child out of a terrible situation and helping them thrive, or educating teens so that they can go on to do great things in their future, is it?

There are Lots of Roles

If you want to work with children, you have a whole lot of options; from social work and teaching to pediatric nursing, there are numerous ways you can use the skills you have to make children’s’ lives better.

They Make Working with Difficult Colleagues Easier

The thing about children si that they are basically little adults, cast in miniature and more demanding, which means that if you get good at dealing with children, should you decide to move on, you’ll be able to deal with even the most obnoxious of adult colleagues or customers with more grace and patience than you might have imagined possible.

The Work Can Be Very Flexible

You might not get much flexibility if you plan to work as a pediatric nurse or school teacher (although you’ll get lots of holidays), ~however, should you decide to work as a childminder, nanny or even a children’s sports coach, then there is a lot more scope for flexibility, which means you won’t necessarily be bogged down by the nine to five.

The Pay is Better Than You Might Think

Sure, the average schoolteacher isn’t exactly rich but paediatric nurses and dentists, psychologists and juvenile judges can earn between $70-120,000 depending upon their education and experience, so a career with children, doesn’t mean a poorly paid career, and even if you do start at the bottom, there is plenty of scope to climb the ladder.

So, there you have it; some very good reasons to consider a career in childcare!
