What did I receive for Christmas? (my first Vlog)

My 2009 Christmas Gifts (plus a special achievement) from Rich DeMatteo on Vimeo.

Well, as promised I said I would throw up my first Video Blog on COTJ.  On Christmas Eve I announced what I wanted for Christmas this year so watch the video to see if I got everything on my list.  Along with showing some of my gifts, I was happy to receive my official PHR certification in the mail yesterday, so I happily show that off to you!

It’s been amazing to get to know all of you online in 2009, but in 2010 I look forward to meeting everyone IRL.

What did you receive during the holidays this year?

1. It’s not awkward and 2. A good blogging friend told me on my first video blog post that you can actually click through on vimeo and choose different ‘cover’ face shots (there are about 6 options) so if you don’t like this awkward one, you can click through to other awkward ones :) Merry happy Christmas!

Grace – Big Matt Chevy set me straight. The picture originally chosen by Vimeo was really, really awkward. I’m OK with the thumbnail I chose now :o )

Thanks for stopping by and merry christmas to you as well!

First video post was great. Give it another 3-4 and you’ll be singing and dancing at the end of one too. :)

Glad you got your chair and again congrats on the PHR. It’s amazing how humble and calm you are able to stay thru that, I’d be jumping around in my brand new computer chair with glee! Glad you’ve cracked into the world that is video blogging, it’s definitely a fun place to be.

Thank you, Elisa! The PHR has really been a pain in my side for a while now, and I’m just completely thrilled to have passed the test and finished grad school!

Maybe in a few months I’ll sing, dance, and juggle in videos… Time will tell!

Are you sure this is your first video post? It was great! You even got up and switched chairs without tripping, kudos!! Seriously though, congrats on the PHR! Glad to see that all your hard work has officially paid off :)

Thanks, Sam! I’m surprised I didn’t trip. The switching of chairs was def a make or break moment!

Great first vlog!! You’re going to get contacted by sponsors in no time after those axe and gillette plugs!

Glad you had a nice Christmas :)

Awesome job man – I was expecting you to trip, fall, knock the computer over – you know, totally vlogging virginity chaos. No such luck – sweet gifts. I’m a Gilette Fusion man myself – and I, well, my fiance, got the entire Sopranos series, which, don’t hate me, I’ve NEVER seen an episode of the Sopranos – so It’s going to be awesome to finally knock that one off the bucket list. Fiance got me a Garmin to go along with my “travel one place new every month in 2010″ resolution – I will finally be able to go new places without staring down at my Google Map app on the cell phone.

So yeah, great Christmas overall – Santa was good to me. Looks like he was to you as well – and congrats on the PHR my friend – I know you will be doing some great things in the coming year. Cheers!

Thanks Matt! Dude – you need to let me know how you like Sopranos. I didn’t get into Sopranos till the show was winding down. Tony Soprano is one of the most interesting characters on Television ever. I think you’ll enjoy.

The Garmin will be incredibly important when you drive to the #ECTU (east coast tweet up). Thanks for the message and look forward to hanging out sometime in ’10.

Terrific video! You are as genuine on screen as you are in print! Congrats on the PHR. I’m a SHRM member (not a PHR holder…too hard…spent 10 years in HR management doing hard labor instead) and a regular presenter at the SHRM LV annual conference. Everyone should know that the PHR test is, exactly what you say, a b buster! That’s a great achievement but in time it will pale in terms of what you will make happen going forward. So all the best in 2010…and be careful of all that Axe…heard it can be dangerous!

Hey Dawn – thanks so much. Glad I looked real, but I did forget to smile a bit. I think I was just showing off my dry humor.

The PHR was very tough, and it is very debatable as to how important it is to HR pro’s, but I was forced to take/pass so I’m glad it is over. Hopefully we can meet up in the new year since I know you live somewhere in PA!

So you can save the smile for next time! Droll is also charming!

Yes, the PHR is debatable. For some HR jobs like comp and benefits, the legal stuff, I suspect it’s a hiring advantage. I know some places that give candidates with it a leg up. For me I was in mgmt dev and trng and more corp strategic stuff when the cert. wasn’t really out there. I think the colleges with HR majors really push it. But, hey, a credential is always a beautiful thing…the more the merrier. You’ve built a great platform for yourself that positions you for lots of directions. Investing in yourself is always smart.

I have a good friend in Berwyn…near you, right? When I’m in the area I’ll let you know! How’s that? Did you win the blog contest? You should!

Stay well,
Dawn

Smile next time – check! Yep, Berwyn is pretty close, I went to college in that area (Cabrini College). Make sure to e-mail me when you are in the area. I didn’t win the blog contest but came close! Thanks for the votes, meant a lot.

Talk to you soon!

Sweet vlog – is that your gift to us, the readers? Also in response to Jenny I didn’t realize that was a guy thing to rock the holiday scruff, but yes we all do it.

I did not know you are into LOST, but let’s please re-convene once the new season begins to discuss, mmkay? In fact I’ll host some discussions on FIWK if you would like to participate.

Keep up the great writing in 2010 Rich!
