So you’re on the lookout for a job? Whether you’re fresh out of university or have decided that you want to change careers, landing your dream job can be seriously stressful. There’s a lot of competition when it comes to well-paid roles, which can make finding a job incredibly difficult.

The thing is, you don’t just want to land any old job, you want a role that you are well suited to and will enjoy. We all have that job we dream of having, but for a lot of us, it seems like just a pipe dream. However, that doesn’t have to be the case.

If you’re smart about it, you can up your chances of landing your dream job. It’s just a case of getting the right training and experience, and also ensuring that your CV gives the right impression.

So, how can you boost your chances of landing your dream job?

Do lots of in-depth research

Firstly, it’s essential that you do lots of thorough research into any role that you love the sound of. This is so that you have a good understanding of what’s involved and what would be expected of you. Spend at least a few days researching the role, Googling any questions or queries that you have. Before you even think about applying, you want to know your dream role inside out. This is important, as believe it or not, it can mean the difference between failure and success.

Don’t have the key skills or experience? Get it!

If after researching the role, you find that you don’t have the key skills or experience needed, don’t panic. Your best option is to take the time to get it, before starting to apply for jobs. That way you double your chances of success. If for example, you’re looking for roles in photography but are lacking certain skills, take part in a photography workshop. This will give you the chance to learn and perfect the skills that you need. Or, if you’ve always dreamt of working in PR, but don’t have the skills you need, undergo a course. It’s better to put off applying and get the skills you need, as this will up your chances of being successful.

Create a CV that stands out for all the right reasons

Your CV is the first impression of you your potential boss will get, so it needs to be good. The most important thing is that your CV stands out for all the right reasons. This means it should have impeccable spelling and grammar, should be neatly laid out, and should list your desirable skills.  Think of your CV as your personal advertisement – it should always show you in the best light possible. It’s a good idea to read the job specification for the role that you’re applying for and then tailor your CV to them. This boosts your chances of being invited to attend an interview.
